God’s Image of You 2

Colossians chapter three, notice here in verse number three… Well, let’s go to chapter one first of all. He said in verse number nine. “For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that you might be filled…” with hamburgers and hot dogs and things to eat. No, “with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.” Spiritual understanding. The spiritual. When you read the word spiritual, think spirit. Spirit of man. So understanding in the spirit of man. See if we were to say physical we’d be talking about the physical body. But he said, “spiritual”, he’s talking about the spirit. So, “be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding [or heart] understanding”, spirit understanding. See, God doesn’t want you to just understand it in your head, He wants your heart to have a grasp of it. “That you might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God.” Look at that, increasing in the knowledge of God. Say increasing.  Increasing. God’s the God of increase. And knowledge is one thing he wants us to increase in. And so then we go over to the third chapter where I was going to go first. Starting in verse number one. “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sits on the right hand of God. Set your affection…” My wife was talking about this, what was that, Tuesday morning, I believe. “Set your affection”, and some translations say “your mind”, either one. Your affections are part of your soul, your mind. “Set your affection [or your mind] on things above, not on things on the earth.” Amen. My wife said this statement, I wrote it in the Bible, in the margin here of this verse. “Set your affections, set your minds. She said, “Establish mindsets.” That’s what that’s talking about, I never thought about that, but that’s what that’s talking about. See I was listening honey. I was listening.  See, you start setting your mind on something, eventually you’re going to start thinking that way.  That’s right. Amen.  Yeah. So he said, “Set your mind,” and you will get a new mentality when you do that. And then he goes on and we don’t have time to read this all, you could spend a lot of time in these verses. But, verse number ten. My wife went over this verse too. “And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:” The new man. Now that’s the new creation. “Any man be in Christ, he’s a new creature.” That new creation is the new man. So the renewed in knowledge; this new man is renewed in knowledge. Remember, “If any man be in Christ, he’s a new creature. Old things are passed away, behold all things have become new. New. All these things. All these things will become new. So, there’s more than just a new nature in you. This new man has a new kind of knowledge. Amen. The word renew, in the Greek, the word renew means new again. New again. Well, what does that mean; new again? Let’s go back to Genesis, chapter number three and we’ll get a little bit of understanding about it. New again, refers to again back to something that is was. Back to the third chapter of Genesis, we find here that when Adam and Eve sinned. You remember that God told ’em you can eat any of the fruit, but don’t eat the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. And the serpent came in chapter three and asked them if it would be okay for them to eat of every tree. And Eve said, “No, not every one. All of them, but the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.” And you know satan tricked her and said, “Well, God’s just trying to keep something from you.” He tells people that today, you know some teenagers. “Aw, they’re just trying to keep you from having any fun, when they say don’t run around with that kind of people.” You know. But anyway, then they ate of the fruit and the Bible says, verse number seven.  This is the third chapter, verse seven. “The eyes of them were open and they knew. See this new man is new in knowledge. Now, so “they knew they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.” “What do you mean they knew they were naked? Didn’t they know that before?” Apparently not or else they wouldn’t have mentioned it there that they knew it. They didn’t know that until they fell into sin consciousness. They were born… Well, they weren’t born again, they had never sinned. But they were alive to God, before this. And then whenever they sinned, they fell; and now they are no more alive to God. Their spirits are now out of contact with God. Amen. And so now they have a new knowledge. You understand that? This is a new kind of knowledge for them. Sense knowledge. Sense knowledge. In other words, sense knowledge is more dominant now than revelation knowledge; which had been more dominant before they fell. Now in the fallen state, sense knowledge is more predominant and they are more aware of what’s around them physically and their own physical body, then they are of God and the revelation of God in their spirits. You understand that. So sense knowledge is now dominant.
