The Bible says that all have sinned (Rom. 3:23). No matter how good we are, we all still fall short of being good enough on our own.

Understand God sent His Son to die for you
Spiritual death or separation from God is the penalty for sin. The Bible says that someone has to pay for our sin. God loved us so much that He sent Jesus to die for us (Rom. 6:23, John 3:16).

Confess Jesus as your Lord and Savior
Romans 10:9-10 says, "If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." You can only receive the free gift of salvation by faith.
